Today was a day that we got to spend mostly with friends from Hamadera Bible Church (HBC). The guys on the team started with playing basketball in the morning with Takashi Kondo and another close friend. This close friend is a son of one of the missionaries at HBC. We were glad to have bonded with these two guys through this way. We know that times of bonding and building camaraderie are crucial to understanding one another. This closeness helps us share the gospel together more effectively. After basketball more members of the team gathered at church for a lunch prepared by an HBC member. Then we continued with a session of Bible reading and teaching, the lesson was on Romans 1:16 and focused on God's unique ability to save. The main event of our day was taking the train to a shopping mall; we wanted to buy Japanese treats and gifts for friends and family back home. I am very thankful to have Takashi, Tomoko, and Kat come along with us. As an American, all of the treats look new and delicious. It helps to have people tell you what is a good find and worth getting. After shopping for gifts, the guys split from the girls to enjoy separate dinners. From what I heard the girls had a great time bonding and eating Ramen together. Us guys met with one of Takashi's long time friends and decided to eat sushi. I am personally thankful to have had a chance to eat out, not only because it was delicious (Shrimp Tempura:Mmm!), but because of the conversations that happened. Together with Takashi we were able to share the gospel with his friend who then received it well and wanted to learn more. After the night was over, Takashi expressed his thankfulness for our help in talking with his friend and inviting him to church. Overall, God continues to bless our desires of caring for others. We really want to outreach to people in Japan and lovingly point them to the wisdom found in scripture. We know how much it has blessed us.
