Hi Guys, Michael here again!
Today our team met again at 10 a.m. During our team meeting, I led a devotional on John 14:13-14 talking about the attitude we have while praying and what it means to pray and ask in Christ’s name. After that, we decided that the best thing our team should do was pray. Our team went down to help the church staff prepare lunch. Lunch today was particularly excellent. We had pork katsu, stir-fried vegetables, miso soup, rice and mochi for desert. During lunch, Eric and I had a great conversation with Kondo-Sensei. He shared with us his views and definition of discipleship and Christian liberties. The rest of our team introduced some of the staff to a new game called “Contact” and it seemed like they really enjoyed the game.
After lunch, our team quickly went with Tomoko to go grab a train to Namba. At Namba, we visited a variety of shops like Muji and Loft. It’s always fun visiting a lot of these Japanese stores that aren’t found in the U.S. at all. Our team spent a significant time in each of these stores, buying many unique Japanese souvenirs for our supporters. I think I spent about 8700 Yen, ($87) on various candy for my supporters. We walked around Namba some more and made a couple stops buying some popular snacks such as Takoyaki and Shaved Ice. Our team then took the train back to Church.
At Church, we split off girls and guys. The girls went to dinner at Denny’s with some of the students from the HOPE bible study as well as one of the non-believing students we have been reaching out to, Ayako. Some of the girls had an opportunity to share the gospel with Ayako and she appeared to be receptive. The guys went to McDonald’s and enjoyed some of the McDonald’s menu items that aren’t offered in America. We all tried the Japan Burger and Shaka-Shaka-Chicken, which were both big hits for us.
We returned to church for the night, and two of Kondo-Sensei’s sons, Takashi and Keishi, as well as two of the Mortimer boys, MaKo and NoNo, spent the night with Eric and I. We plan on playing basketball tomorrow morning with some of the other guys. One of the lessons Kondo-Sensei taught Eric and I during lunch is that sometimes discipleship is just simply spending time with other people. Our goal is to be able to do that by just hanging out with these guys tonight. Tomorrow, we also plan to have a bible-study with the HOPE students and teach them the importance of discipleship as well, so they have a model to follow after we leave.
Thanks for reading!
