We had rehearsal at church this morning for the offertory to be played on Sunday morning. The song we chose was “Hallelujah, What a Savior” (or “Man of Sorrows”)!
"Man of Sorrows!” what a name
For the Son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
"Man of Sorrows!” what a name
For the Son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Hanging out with the Kondos—Takashi (oldest) and Amy (middle):
For lunch, the girls went out with Amy and ate at a bakery restaurant with her friend, Moeka. They played the onion game—where all the people in a group take turns answering the same questions, which progressively get deeper—and the team members were able to share from a God-centered worldview something someone said to encourage them (Q1) and a fear they had that was conquered (Q2). The guys ate with Japanese Colonel Sanders (KFC!) with Takashi-kun. Since the team’s arrival, Takashi-kun had been away in America and had just come back the previous night, and so we were excited to finally meet the man! We discussed ministry with him and what that looks like for him as he leads Hope, which is the college and young adult group, and Joy, the junior high and senior high group.
For dinner, we spent time with one of Tami-chan’s friends, Saki, at an Omurice—Japanese Omelet Rice—restaurant. She comes from a Catholic background, and it was so good to be reminded of the enlightening power of the Word of God as Eric explained the text we studied the previous weekend with some of the Hope students. Our leader expressed his love for and joy in studying the Bible and shared with Saki how we can have peace with God (Rom. 5:1)—by being justified by faith! As the verse was unpacked and she mulled over Tami-chan interpreting/translating what Eric said, Saki expressed some excitement over how we delved into a single verse. As Christians, when our minds are not constantly dwelling on truth (Phil. 4:8) and we are presented with an opportunity to share the gospel (1 Peter 3:15), we may instinctively turn to and rely on man’s words and man’s wisdom (1 Cor. 2), but tonight showed us again that it is the unfolding of His words that gives light (Ps. 119:130).
Prayer request:
1. Saki would hunger and thirst for the riches of the Bible and be given a heart of flesh (Ezek. 36:26) that responds in affectionate obedience to its Author.
