I was raised in a household with multiple religions. My mother’s side of the family worshipped many gods and regularly burned paper money to ancestors, while my father’s side of the family denied the existence of any gods. However, since I lived with my grandmother who was Catholic, I attended mass every week and heard about Jesus Christ. Although I prided myself in being religious, I had no relationship with Christ and sin dominated my life as I worshipped the world and sought validation and praise from my family and friends. In God’s kindness and mercy, while I was still His enemy, He chose me to be his child in Christ.
The summer after my sophomore year of high school, God planted a seed in my life as I went back to Taiwan for summer vacation. In His sovereignty, He used my previously unbelieving aunt to bring me to a church in Taipei. There, I saw how different the believers’ lives were from normal people and how much my aunt’s life had changed since I last saw her. That summer, God placed in me a desire to know Jesus Christ. When junior year began, I started attending Friday night youth group with my friends and slowly God exposed His Truth to me little by little. By the end of high school, I knew I wanted to find a fellowship in college.
The first week that I started going out to Grace on Campus (a Crossroad’s Bible Study), a few people invited me to coffee. That night, they asked me a few questions, one of which was “If you were to die today, do you think you would go to heaven?” At the time, I was not really sure if believing in Christ was enough. I thought I was a good person, and I was at least obedient on the surface. Little did I know that God saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.” Titus 3:5. The conversation led to an explanation that we are all sinners saved by grace, which is a free gift that we cannot earn (Eph 2:8). After I heard a strong presentation of the Gospel message, God used many trials to humble me and convince me that I was a sinner, who was in desperate need of a Savior. Because of His faithfulness, God allowed me to repent of my sins and accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Soon after, I was baptized at Grace Church.
Ever since the first seed was planted, God has been graciously maturing me in my faith. He has shown me the wisdom of His Word, the sweetness of prayer and the joy of fellowship. By His grace, I understand that my desire to please man is sinful, and that God is the only one who can satisfy me. I have placed my hope in Jesus Christ and dedicated my life to do everything for the Glory of our gracious God.
