Konnichi wa (good afternoon) its tuesday afternoon for me right now... and i've been blessed with the opportunity to share what God has sovereignly allowed us to do sunday afternoon and all of yesterday... i say sovereignly because oftentimes I have a wrong attitude towards things that God places in my life... Sunday afternoon was an example of that.
Sunday afternoon 5 of our team went to this international get together about like 20 minutes away. The first twenty minutes I think most of us had absolutely no clue why we were there. The only thing that we knew that we were supposed to do was sing Amazing Grace and this other song... the weird thing is that they were expecting us to sing these two songs... aside from that these indonesian guys sung songs and pretty much stole the spotlight for a good chunk of the get together... we sung songs that existed in multiple languages and taught each other how to play rock paper scissors. Later there was this Q&A session and Priscilla asked the main guy what ther purpose of this meeting was... and it was for people from different countries to get together and practice speaking japanese... and to make friends... All in all this was a weird experience... but some of the people from the get together came to our welcoming party that night at the church... After we left the get together... I interviewed the members... and our driver shingo... and this is what they said:
Q: What did you think of the international get together?
Ray: That was the strangest thing I've ever participated in, and I've done alot of strange things in my life.
Priscilla: It was neat to be able to talk to those girls in English (Ayako, Hiroko... they came to our welcoming party) and also practice some Chinese.
Georgia: It was different.
Shingo: It was first time. I was very surprised. Some members wanted to be friends, and some members wanted to look for girls.
Heather: I didn't think I was going to have to know Chinese and Korean in Japan.
Myself: I don't think the adjective that I want to use to describe that event exists.
Shingo took us to see this awesome view from the 26th floor of the Rinku gate tower... it was pretty sweet... then we went back to church to party
Monday... the original plan was to help the Okadas clean this one storage room in their house... and then go to this shopping center called plat plat... and then babysit in the evening... so they could go out on a date... what happened though was that it took quite awhile to clean that room... but it was an awesome illustration of the body working together... Our team along with Marcia Okada were able to clean that room finally... the Okadas rent their house... and the storage room was the owners stuff... however... it was musty and smelled of mold... so we cleaned it so a window could be opened... and it would smell less foul... We found some really interesting things there... Japan is humid... so people use dehumidifiers to keep things from getting too wet... they start out as solid balls... and then after absorbing moisture become a liquid.. this room had like 60 dehumidifiers i think... the treasure in that room was 100,000 yen which is like a thousand US dollars... and found an old school gameboy with like 15 games... it even works... i turned it on.. For some reason there was like 50 umbrellas and 50 handbags... dunno why... So we ended up not going to Plat Plat cuz it took so long to clean that room.... then some of us went to spend time with students from OPU... from what I heard it was an awesome time... the gospel was proclaimed... and from what i hear the students started to see how other members of my team genuinely cared for them... the rest of us babysitted nikki and noah... it was actually really easy... the hardest part was getting them to bed cuz they wanted their mommy (how cute)... I bargained with them and read them a story... brought some toys that they wanted to sleep with and that i would stay and sleep with them until mommy came home... at first they were quite restless... and I decided to speak to God... so i started praying and when i finished praying they were asleep... The Okadas didn't actually come home for awhile and it was a good time for me to reflect on the work that God does in our lives.. some tears were even shed i'll admit... the rest of the team was practicing downstairs so they could serenade the Okadas when they returned from their date... so that was monday... i'm supposed to mention that our team has a pet... his name is jay-bez... and he's a praying mantis... he eats mosquitos, ants, and even garlic bread... thats the end of my report.
