Today, we had the opportunity to minister to the Mortimers who are missionaries in Japan and members of HBC. It was a day full of fun, fellowship, and encouragement!
We are thankful for the faithful servants of HBC who drove us to the Mortimer's house in the morning. When we arrived, we spent time getting to know Midori Mortimer and Nono, one of the five sons. The names of the five sons from oldest to youngest are: Mako, Nono, Sato, Hichan, and Koto. Before lunch, a few of us played games with Nono while others talked to Mrs. Mortimer as she took care of a nursing dog.

Around lunchtime, Chris Mortimer came home from teaching his morning English classes, and we had the privilege of getting to talk with him and see how he's doing. We are very encouraged by the Mortimer family's example of trusting the Lord during trials and living out this truth because ultimately everything is in God's hands. After lunch, Hannah, Michael, Meini, and Jen were able to attend Chris' English class as American guests. They were able to share with Chris' classmates the reason why our team has come to Japan which is to share the Gospel and encourage the church. This was very much like our conversations with the Japanese college students, but rather, with other non-college Japanese people.
After participating in some of Chris' classes, our team spent time with the other Mortimer kids: Sato, Hichan, and Koto. A few of their friends also joined us. We played sports with them at a local elementary school and taught them some American games such as Boom Chicka Boom Boom and Sharks and Minnows. We all had a really good time, and we are glad that we got to hang out with the kids, especially since they don't get to hang out with Americans very often.

The last part of our day was spent eating and fellowshipping at a fellow HBC member's Okinawan style restaurant. We got the chance to further develop friendships with some of the HOPE members and build team unity through a delicious meal.
Overall, today was a very fun and exciting day, and I'm glad we were able to encourage and minister to the Mortimer's and church members! We are excited for another day of ministry tomorrow as we host American Day at the church tomorrow and Sunday!
Please pray for...
- team strength and energy
- the team to be humble and an encouragement to the missionaries and HBC members
- the Japanese students that we have shared the Gospel with who will be coming to American Day and/or church this weekend and for the team to have compassion on them
Thanks!
- Debbie
