Day 10 (Collin)
Day 10
Hello all, this is Collin. Today (Monday) we spent all day at Tennoji High School from 9 in the morning to 7. Okada Sensei came along with us for most of the day for the purpose of seeing if Hamadera Bible Church wants to establish a longer relationship with the school and send STM people there year after year. Since we had to leave early to get there and because we have had pretty busy days, a lot of the team was a little tired, but God gave us the strength to interact with the students. For several class periods in a row, we introduced ourselves to the Japanese students and then the teacher had us and the students ask each other questions (for example, what job do they want to do, where we have traveled, what do you want to do at least once in your life). Their level of English was not up to the level of the college students, as a basic English conversation could be achieved with moderate difficulty.
During the lunch hour and a couple of other class periods, we had break time in which we were able to rest and also hang out with some of the students. The English teacher was nice and brought us and the students a lot of Beland, Priscilla, and I played darts with a couple of the students and a couple of the students were teaching Priscilla and Dianna a popular dance. During one of the class periods, the teacher showed a Mr. Bean Christmas video to teach them about American holidays (although Mr. Bean is not really American, but it kinda works). Beland was then able to explain to the students the significance of Christmas and the fact that gift giving is symbolic of the gift of Jesus Christ that God gave to the world.
After all of the class periods, we met with the school’s English club. Aside from playing a few fun games such as zoo and Pictionary, the English club planned how they want us to help publicize their group during an on campus festival on Friday. Overall it was a good day of meeting students but a little bit exhausting.
After the high school, we went to Jun’s house and his wife cooked a lot of good food for us. We had a lot of fun and also played Wii Mario Kart where the loser had to eat a lot of wasabi all at once.
Please continue to be in prayer for us, that our team would get adequate rest and be healthy (Lucy is getting over sickness right now) and for continued gospel opportunities with the students. Wednesday we will be visiting Osaka University again, and Thursday we will be going to Kyoto, a place with a lot of temples and shrines. Thank you all for following us and praying for us.
